Getting Ready for Fall

Getting ready for Fall at Travonna!  Making several new pieces as well as unearthing a few oldies that I had kinda claimed as my own...but I think it's time to put them back out on the market :)
I'm also doing some different things besides just 2-D paintings, including some wooden boxes and a vinyl doll.  I'm really excited about how the wall is going to look!
Also looking into some more new venues to show my work...a record store and another coffee shop!  Yay! World Domination ;P hehe

Getting Ready for the weekend

It's that time of year again... Independent's Day, here in the great city of Columbus, Ohio.  For one Saturday, Gay St. and Peal Alley are transformed into what I think is one of the best art festivals around.  It celebrates the independent artists, artisans, and musicians!  No $300 framed prints, no ticket prices to see the musicians...just us...the artists that make Columbus what it is!  I'll be there with my art group, Cap City Creatives selling some great pieces(I think) for great prices(I know I price my stuff too low, they say)...here's something I started today for the festival.  It's a little 6x6 wooden box with one of my favorite iconic monsters :) Just needs clear coated and we will be ready for selling!

Urban Scrawl 6

Been really busy this week getting things together for Urban Scrawl 6 at 400 West Rich St this weekend(25-26).  Going to have some older pieces and some newer ones for sale.  Lots of price points!!!

Cowboy!

Lots to do this week, so there should be lots and lots of posts!  So far on my list is 4 Frankensteins, Lon Chaney, James Dean, Ernest Hemingway, Muhammad Ali and an owl ;)  I also went back in and tweaked this Johnny Cash a little to better define his pointing hand.  All of these things will be on sale at GREAT prices at Urban Scrawl at 400 West Rich on August 25th and 26.  I take Cash and Check(as long as it doesn't look suspicious ☺)

All done with the tractor piece that I stared earlier in the week.  I change the green a little added some clouds...and voila!

Part 2 of the Landscape

This is part two of the beginnings of the landscape I posted about a few days ago.  This little tractor has been a symbol in other pieces of art that I have created, for my father.  He passed away when I was nine years old, leaving me and my mom to take care of things.  He had this tractor, a Farmall, that he used to plow and till our garden and on occasion take a ride down to my grandparents house.  He used to let me steer while I sat on his lap.  Some of my fondest remembrances of him.

Something new...

As you can tell with the art that I have on this blog, one can see that I have artistic ADD.  I get bored of one thing and try something else, then go back to the other thing.  What I SHOULD be doing is working on art for Urban Scrawl(http://www.facebook.com/events/455774831108793/) or for the CCC Birthday Party....who knows perhaps this piece will show up at one of those places in the next few weeks( http://www.facebook.com/events/419333134779147/)

If you can't tell at this point, it's a landscape albeit a very bright one :)

I know, I know...Another Frankenstein?  Yes, indeed.  I ♥ him!

I made it though my first day back to work after vacation! And I don't feel like I am going to pass out from exhaustion...that would be what the rest of the week is for lol.  Been playing around with some different images instead of my usual portrait style.  I found this piece of mdf in the garage and decided to work with some collage and acrylic elements and recreate a little FireProof building from downtown on High St.  It's still in the beginning stages, but I have enjoyed doing it.  I've got some canvases that are needing something painted on them too, so I've got to get some ideas in the works!

I need to clean up the perspective a little bit on the doors on the bottom and do some line work.  Might even do a little acetone transfer on the brick parts at the top...

Cap City Creatives did excellent at the Columbus Arts Festival, with us selling a little over 30 pieces all together!  I sold 3 pieces which makes me extra happy.  Glad that someone wanted to take my art home and enjoy it as much as I do!  Here are some pics of the display - Overall I have to say I was very proud to be a part of such an awesome event and I am excited to see what they come up with for next year!

The Columbus Arts Festival is only a few days away.  Lots of sweat has gone into making a great 2nd year that the Independent Arts groups here in Columbus have been invited to take part and to add some local flavor.  Come visit us in the Columbia Gas parking lot at the corner of Rich and Civic Center Drive.  I'll also be hanging out in the studio of the Columbus Artmobile the first part of the day on Saturday.  Here is a little taste of what I've made to have displayed.

A different flavor...

A little video that I made experimenting with shooting myself painting.  I love to watch other artists paint and often check out YouTube and Vimeo to get my fix.  So I thought that I would try my hand at it ;)

Good morning Boys and Girls! So been busy with art group things and art things and doing things to the house so we can put it on the market things.  Have a few new pieces to share...

Here is the newest piece that I am really happy about.  It's for the Feverhead Alternative Valentine's Day Show.  Really sweet event.  Check out the event page here http://www.facebook.com/events/192946324133817/

The piece is based on a Lichtenstein comic piece and I thought that Frank and his bride went perfectly with the theme.  AND you all know how I feel about Frank in my art :)





And here is another Frank-a-licious piece.  Basically, it's a stenciled aerosol rectangle with a relief lino print over top in ink.  I tested out several colors and you can see them on my Flickr page...http://www.flickr.com/photos/donnaestep/

Woo Hoo, Printmaking!  I do enjoy doing something a little out of the ordinary from time to time, so I pulled out the linoleum to take part in an upcoming Printmaking show at CS Gallery in Olde Town East.  This is a lino print version of my painting Franken-Five and I think it came out pretty good.  This one is just a test with a stamp pad...I'll post the finished ones once I have them photographed.

And yes I am crazy and decided to do not one but TWO new lino block prints for this show.  This one is based on a patterned tessellation that I came up with.  Frankenstein alternated with flames.  I'm pretty sure this one is going to get some hand coloring on the finished product.

Well, Keep coming back!  I'm aiming at blogging about something new about once a week, as long as it isn't boring!  Peace!
